State Representative Deanne Mazzochi is hosting a holiday diaper drive to help benefit struggling local mothers this winter.
“As we move on from Halloween and into the season of being thankful and the giving of gifts, I am asking for the community’s help in keeping babies in need clean, dry, and healthy this holiday season,” Rep. Mazzochi said. “Unfortunately, thanks to federal rules, Illinois mothers down on their luck cannot use SNAP benefits to purchase diapers and related products and inflation is making an already costly problem worse.”
Infants require up to 12 diapers per day, at a cost of $70 to $80 per month per child, roughly $930 per year, according to the National Diaper Bank Network, a non-profit working to eliminate diaper need. Those numbers are rising as disposable diaper prices have jumped 20% over the past year according to the latest numbers from June 2022.
“I am asking the community to help me spread the love and good blessings this holiday season to those who are down on their luck.”
Rep. Mazzochi is collecting diapers of various sizes, wipes, soaps, ointments, and other related products. The drive will run from November 10th-18th. Rep. Mazzochi is collecting diapers at several locations across Hinsdale and Elmhurst to benefit the Hinsdale and Yorkfield Food Pantries.
