Zoom, IL… State Representative Deanne Mazzochi (R-Elmhurst) invites residents to an online Finance 101 webinar presented with the Illinois Comptroller’s Office. The webinar will take place via zoom on Wednesday, June 8th at 4pm.
“Financial literacy is so important to the transition to successful adulthood, which is why I co-sponsored legislation to encourage the teaching of it in high school,” Rep. Mazzochi said. She co-sponsored Senate Bill 1830, which was signed into law by the Governor last August. The bill states that of the 2 years of social studies required to receive a high school diploma, one semester, or part of one semester, may include a financial literacy course.
“This webinar is geared towards teens and young adults who are just starting to take control of their finances; for example, those who about to head off to college where they will have to budget for the first time and who didn’t get a chance to learn important financial lessons,” Rep. Mazzochi said.
The Comptroller’s Office will go through the basics of how to manage your personal finances. How to identify the terminology, such as the difference between a credit report and a credit score, and methods of budgeting and credit. You will acquire the tools to set goals, create savings plans, protect yourself against identity left, and learn how to maintain a personal budget. You will learn about your options after high school, loans and how to pay off debt.
