State Representative Deanne Mazzochi (R-Elmhurst), together with Downers Grove Township Assessor Greg Boltz, is hosting a seminar on understanding and appealing your property tax assessment.
“Homeowners are struggling right now,” Rep. Mazzochi explained. “The cost of everything is going up, including government expenditures, which means increasing property taxes to make up for it. While we need real relief, that can only come from state and local government action. In the meantime, this seminar will help property owners understand their bill, how local and state spending impacts it, and what the assessment appeal process looks like.”
The seminar will take place on Thursday, May 26th from 7-8p.m. at the Community House, 415 W 8th Street in Hinsdale. It is free and open to all residents of the 47th District.
Rep. Mazzochi most recently served on the Democrat-led Property Tax Relief Task Force. The unwieldy, 80-member task force met over the course of the latter half of 2019, but failed to produce any legislation. Rep. Mazzochi, along with other House Republican members of the task force, filed a package of property tax relief bills in 2020. The supermajority Democrats refused to allow any of those bills to be heard in committees.
Rep. Mazzochi added, “Illinois’ property tax structure continues to make it difficult for more families to plan for their futures in their homes, and can have punishing effects on seniors. This seminar will give homeowners the tools they need to lower their property taxes when they feel they are being overcharged.”
