Mazzochi Bringing Together Opioid Experts to Discuss Current Crisis

On Wednesday, February 24th State Representative Deanne Mazzochi (R-Elmhurst), in partnership with the Rx Alone Leadership Initiative of Illinois (RALI), will host an online discussion educating the community on substance abuse.

“The economic shutdown and social isolation of COVID-19 has had a tremendous impact on mental health and the opioid crisis in our community that we need to acknowledge,” Rep. Mazzochi said. In 2020 DuPage County saw a record number of opioid deaths, especially in the first half of the year.

RALI is a nonprofit focused on raising awareness of the warning signs of opioid misuse and providing tools to enable the safe disposal of unused prescription medicines. Rep. Mazzochi will be joined by a counselor from RALI partner Trinity Services, which offers counseling and psychotherapy for people dealing with mental health and substance use disorders, the Pledge for Life Partnership, which focuses on safe storage and disposal of prescription medicines, and the Illinois Sheriffs’ Association. Together they will discuss important steps to help prevent addiction and signs to look out for.

The seminar will be on Wednesday, February 24th at 5pm. Residents can participate in the webinar via Zoom or Facebook live on Rep. Mazzochi’s page. To register for the webinar via Zoom click here.

If you are, or know someone who is, struggling with an addiction you can call the DuPage County Health Department Crisis Line at 630-627-1700, which is available 24/7.
